The city of Naples is located in Collier County on the far southern end of Florida's gulf coast. Naples is home to about 22,000 residents, but is often combined statistically with Marco Island and the surrounding communities for a total closer to 315,000 residents. The city was founded in the 1880s and was named due to its many similarities - including the bay shorline, fishing, and climate - as found in Naples, Italy. Naples' economy is healthy and is based on successful local businesses along with a strong tourism industry.
